This book is designed to serve as a textbook for students of engineering studying a course on power electronics. It provides a lucid and comprehensive treatment of the topics covered in the book. Then each chapter begins at an introductory level and is so developed progressively that an average student can comprehend the subject matter easily. Topics covered in this volume include diode circuits and rectifiers, phase-controlled rectifiers, choppers, inverters, etc. A large number of illustrative figures and a wide variety of worked examples add to the clarity of the subject matter presented in the book. A sufficient number of unsolved problems with answers, conceptual questions, and hints to the relatively difficult ones are given at the end of each chapter to test students' knowledge regarding the topics covered. Bimbhra retired as a professor of electrical and electronics engineering from Thapar institute of engineering and technology (no' apar university) Patiala. A graduate of Punjab engineering college, Chandigarh, he received his m.e. (Hons.) and ph.d. From the university of Roorkee: now the Indian institute of technology, Roorkee. He is a fellow of the institution of engineers (India) and a life member of it. He has published several papers in reviewed journals.
